Adios!

Please pray for us and for our hosts and for the people of the Dominican Republic as we prepare to leave this coming Friday! We are so excited to be able to show God‘s love to the people of the Dominican Republic! We and our hosts agreed: what a privilege to serve our Savior by serving the people of the DR.  After some tearful goodbyes yesterday we are safely ensconced at the boarding gate.  Thanks for reading about the mission and all of your prayers!

Tursday

By Linda Munoz Tuesday I had the honor to witness one of  God’s miracle in motion! One of the seminarian’s wife joined my team who just happens to be an optometrist in her country! Our job was to find the right prescription for eyeglasses.  A young woman sat down and I could tell by the very thick eyeglasses she had on that this was not going to be an easy task. How were we going to be able to help this young woman? But the seminarians wife new just what to do and together with the rest of my team the right pair of eyeglasses were found and when we put the glasses on her the smile on her face brought me to tears! She could see!!  God is great! I can’t help but wonder what the seminarians wife will do with this new information when she returns to her country, maybe, she will be another Gayle Sommerfeld and further God’s kingdom in her country! To God be the Glory!

Due to some scheduling conflicts, we were able to take our Cultural day today rather than later in the week.  Everybody appreciated the early day of rest to get a different perspective of the Dominican Republic.  And, La Chocolata made a great impression! It is a small chocolate operation originally built as a female safe business- women only- thirty years ago that was a big deal here.  Today the founders granddaughter gave us a tour that included: Breaking and eating the mucus from a chocolate pod. It was quite sweet.  How hungry do you have to be to be the first to try this?! We then roasted the dried cocoa beans, ground them into a paste and rolled into balls  Pretty straightforward process actually and we bringing the process home.  Or maybe just the product!😁 And oh yeah! Our self proclaimed avocado lover said the ones grown here are the best! God bless you all!

Sunday Part 2

From Linda: Yesterday we had so many miracles and Blessings!!! It started with a church service that was amazing and for me very special then clinic for 4 hours and we had the same amount of people we did the first day for 8 hours!! Whew 😅 we did it!! God provided everything we needed and we witnessed His grand plan! One was a gentleman who was almost entirely blind and team members and one of our translators- who is also blind!-  were able to connect him with the right people to start his path for a better life! God is great!!

Sunday!

After a night of sleep that only a hard day’s work can produce, we had the privilege of worshipping with our “Faith Family” here in Santiago de Los Caballeros. And yes it was all in Spanish with very little interpretation. The sermon, the readings, the liturgy, confession, absolution, and communion were all in Spanish.   While we didn’t understand everything we certainly understood the basics of the sermon. If you haven’t had the chance to worship in a foreign language we highly recommend it! The Eyeglass session lasted just 4.5 hours today and we managed to serve the same number of people as yesterday in 7 hours.  The local Pastor was very pleased with the impact and impression we  made in the neighborhood. By word of mouth there were 50%more people today than he expected!  What a blessing to show the love of Jesus to more than 120 people.  Some of you may be wondering about the possibility of tropical storms here. Please rest assured that we are monitori...

First Day (Saturday)

Image
This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!  Our devotions performed in the bus this morning en route to our first eyeglass clinic captured so many aspects of this verse- the good when we acknowledge God and the not so good when we that this is His day.  Today was an amazing day!!! 120 people served and over 150 glasses. We started with a dress rehearsal picture above and were in full blow eye-glass mode just an hour later! What a blessing to be a blessing!  We appreciate your prayers!

God of Peace!

From Linda Munoz For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. 1Corinthians  14:33 Yesterday was a day to remember this verse. We were tested in many areas but God prevailed as always. Where He leads He provides always! What comfort these words are and what peace it brings to us. We don’t have to worry about all the bumps in the road Gods got it all handled. I’m excited for what the day will bring as we start the clinic today.
